Google Drive ile ilgili olarak 08.09.2017 tarihinde Google’ ın yaptığı açıklamadan sonra geçtiğimiz günlerde medyada G.Drive’ ın kapatılacağı yönünde haberler çıktı, “Google Drive kapanacak mı?” sorusu da bir kaç kişiden geldi, bu habere açıklık getirmek gerektiğini düşündüm. Kısaca bilgi vermek gerekirse; ‘Google Drive kapanmayacak’, böyle bir şey yok, sadece “Google Drive App” in ismi ve şekli değişecek. Yani Google Drive daki dosya/klasörlerini, kolaylık olsun diye bilgisayarına Google Drive uygulamasını indirerek kullanan Windows ve Mac kullanıcıları, 26.09.2017 den sonra Drive File Stream uygulaması üzerinden devam edecekler. Biz sizlere eğitimlerde daha çok Google Chrome’ dan “drive.google.com” şeklinde web arayüzü üzerinden kullanılmasını anlatmıştık ve sizler de zaten genelde bu web arayüzüni kullandığınız için bir şey fark edilmeyecek. Herhangi bir kişinin, herhangi bir dosya/klasöründe bir değişiklik olmayacak, değiştirilmeyecek, silinmeyecek. Paylaşım ayarları da değişmeyecek, sistem kaldığı yerden devam edecek merak etmeyin.
Peki çeşitli web sitelerinde neden “Google Drive kapatılıyor” yazıyor sorusuna cevap olarak; maalesef hit almak ve ilgi çekmek için, önde gelen güvenilir haber siteleri bile bu yanıltıcı başlığı kullanabiliyorlar ve kullanıcıların kafası karışabiliyor. Bu gibi haberlerde her zaman ilgili bir haberi doğrulamak için, o konuda en doğru bilgiyi alabileceğiniz kurumun kendi resmi web sitesindeki haberi okumanızda yarar var.

Okuldaki bütün bilgisayarlarda bu uygulama yüklüdür, isteyen bu uygulamayı açarak kullanabilir, aslında bu uygulamanın kullanımını teşvik edecek doküman paylaşıp isteyen kişilerle workshop yapacaktık ama bu malum haber yayınlandı, o yüzden sizlere bu uygulama yerine gelecek olan yeni programın kullanımı hakkında detaylı bilgi vereceğiz 26 eylülden sonra.

After the announcement of Google regarding Google Drive on 08.09.2017 and when a few people asked, “Will Google Drive be closed down?” I thought that I should make things clear. In short, “Google Drive will not close down”. However, the name and structure of “Google Drive App” will change. The changes will be like this. Windows and Mac users who used to download Google Drive application on their desktop to easily get files/folders on Google Drive, will continue to do this action via Drive File Stream application after 26/09/2017. In our training, we mainly talked about using the web interface “drive.google.com” on Google Chrome and since most of you often use this interface, nothing will change. Any files/folders of anyone will not be modified, changed, or deleted. Sharing settings will be the same and the system will go on from where its left.
Well, we should also give an answer to “Google Drive is closing down” articles on many websites. Unfortunately, such sites even the thrusted news sites could use misleading titles to increase their site hits and to attract users. If you want to have the correct and accurate information about these news, it is better to read the news on the official website.

If we answer, “Why did Google do such thing?” question, actually there are two main reasons. First, new application will work faster than the old one and synchronization will be more effective and efficient. Second, new application will be more secure regarding file sharing (malware) via Google Drive.
Current Google Drive application will enable you to use your files and folders as if you are managing them on your own computer rather than using the website (like “server files” system we used to have). All the computers in school have this application. Anyone can login and use this application. Actually, we were planning a workshop to encourage document sharing with this application but the new were published. After September 26, we will provide detailed information about how to use this new program.
